The magic of the Pyramids welcomes Al Attiyah, Piatek and Abu Issa

GIZA – The emotion to finish the Pharaons Rally at the Giza Pyramids it’s a unique thing in the scenery of the rally raid. An even stronger emotion for the winners of the 2015 edition: Nasser Al Attiyah/Mathieu Baumel (QAT/FRA – Mini All4 Racing) among the cars, Jakub Piatek (POL – KTM) among the bikes and Mohammed Abu Issa (QAT – Honda) among the quads.

The last leg of the 2015 Pharaons has started this morning from the Baharija Oasis for a special of 339 kilometres, a special that traditionally shows up some surprises. But tradition was almost playing against Mohammed Al Balooshi (ARE – KTM), the pilot that dominated the first three stages and yesterday lost his leadership for a navigation mistake. An engine failure of his KTM right before the CP1 has obliged him to push his bike for five kilometres, then got to the finish one hour and half ...

Balooshi looses his leadership, Al Attiyah is already looking at the Pyramids

TIBNIYA – The second to the last stage of Pharaons Rally has run over the same track of the second stage, due to the discovery of an archeological site few days before the start of the race. Over a track almost all traced by the passage of the second day, navigation was not playing a dominant role, but in spite of this, surprises were not missing. Mainly among the bikes, with the classification leader Mohammed Al Balooshi (KTM: he has made the same mistake of two days ago, so he’s lost much time before getting back on the right track.

The leg has gone to the Bolivian Chavo Salvatierra (KTM) leaving few attention to the navigation and - even if he opened the track as in the previous days - he has made the difference compared to his competitors.

Salvatierra has preceded by 3’55’’ the Polish Jakub Piatek that has gained ...

Changes in the bikes results

After the mistake in the coordinates of the waypoint at km 261,60, the International Jury took the decision to neutralize the time between the previous and the following waypoints, corresponding with km 244.310 and 268.950. According to the new results, Mohammed Al Balooshi wins the stage with 1’24’’ lead over Jakub Piatek. Diocleziano Toia loses the leadership of the stage and is now third with 2’36’’ behind Balooshi. Quad rider Mohammed Abu Issa wins the stage ahead of Rafael Sonik. The change in the results leads to a new overall ranking with Balooshi leading over Piatek (2) and Salvatierra (3). Abu Issa has secured his lead over Sonik with 4 minutes difference.

Al Rajhi, Toia e Sonik at the top in the third stage

TIBNIYA – Pyramids are getting increasingly closer, with the third stage of 2015 Pharaons Rally that has passed the turning point with a varied day as usual with many kind of terrains. A wide loop of 346 kilometres, 319 of which of selective section, that has seen the victory of Yazeed Al Rajhi among the cars, Diocleziano Toia among the bikes and Rafal Sonik in the quad category.

Being fifth at the start this morning and exploiting this at his best, Yazeed Al Rajhi (Toyota) has doubled the success of the first stage again in front of Nasser Al Attiyah (Mini), who is definitely registered in second position. The gap between the two is 1’28’’ that becomes 3’38’’ for Erik Van Loon (Mini), finally actor of high level stage. Only fourth is the winner of yesterday, the Russian Vladimir Vasilyev (Mini), anyway only four minutes behind from the winner ...
